Kuala Lumpur Beach : visit Pantai Balang Lalang

In this month of October 2021, still in the middle of the crisis of the covid coronavirus, Malaysia begins to lift several restrictions, for the vaccinated.

Many people are looking for a change of scenery, especially by going to the beach.

Here, in this video, we will give you an overview and some details of one of the beaches at 1h10 from Kuala Lumpur : Pantai Balang Lalang.

For the culture, Pantai means Beach in Malay.

We will make another video more detailed on the latest news about covid in Malaysia, but be aware that the borders for international tourism are still closed. We don’t think this would change for many months (after Ramadan 2022?).

Beaches near Kuala Lumpur

1. Is there a beach in Kuala Lumpur?

   This is a question we receive regularly, especially from people who have never been to Kuala Lumpur, and who cannot place the city on a world map.

   No, there is no beach in Kuala Lumpur.
   The nearest beaches are about 1 hour away.
   And we warn you right away: these are not postcard beaches.
   Forget these places if you are looking for “heavenly” beaches.

2. What are the beaches near Kuala Lumpur?

   There are several at 1h – 1h30 from Kuala Lumpur.
   These are usually beaches frequented by local families.
   You will find few foreigners, probably preferring to take the plane and join for example the island of Langkawi (1 hour flight only).

3. The beaches of northwest Kuala Lumpur

   We haven’t visited them yet, but we plan to spend at least an hour there when we take the car to drive along the whole west coast of Kuala Lumpur.

   Among these ranges, you have for example:
   – Pantai Bagan Nakoda Omar, a very small beach,
   – Pantai Sebelah Jeram,
   – Pantai Remis Public Picnic Area,
   – Pantai Sungai Kajang baru.

   

   

   

4. The beaches of southwest Kuala Lumpur

   Here are some beaches in the southwest of KL:

   – Pantai Tanjung Piai,
   – Pantai Tanjung Rhu,
   – Pantai Morib Banting,
   – Pantai Bagan Lalang, at the border of Negeri Sembilan state and its popular beach, Port Dickson.

   

   

   

We are going to focus on this last beach, because it is here that we decided to spend part of this day.

How to get to Pantai Bagan Lalang

The beach is only 70 km south of Kuala Lumpur.
However, the last part of the journey is slowed down by road works and by the small roads with very limited speed.

If you decide to drive your own car, don’t forget to bring your toll payment card (TNG card, Touch N Go, for example).
Always carry identification with you in case of an inspection, as well as your international driver’s license.

Our advice

As usual, here are some tips, if you ever want to go to these beaches.

• Avoid school vacations and weekends, as well as public holidays. Except if you wish the world does not disturb you (on our side, we appreciate both: of the world sometimes, and few people, it is also appreciable).
• Bring a parasol or umbrella to protect yourself from the heat if you are sensitive to the sun. Indispensable for children.
• Of course, you should bring your sunscreen.
• Have a plan B, if these places do not suit you: rent a car, and do the whole coast can be nice, IF YOU HAVE TIME. In our opinion, there are much better things to do, if your time is short (if you are non-Malaysian residents, and you are only passing through Malaysia, for example).
• Getting folding chairs is a MUST here in Malaysia (for us, anyway) ????.
• You will be able to eat on site: either you bring your own meal or you can take advantage of the restaurants on site (don’t expect high end, of course).
